About Me

Hi, I’m Eva—the gardener, seed saver, and bouquet maker behind Backyard Bannan.

I have fond memories of making snapdragons talk, finding Easter eggs hidden in tulips, and the scent of blooming jasmine. Maybe this flower farming journey is a return to my childhood joy.

"Maybe what we can do when we feel overwhelmed is to start small. Start with what we have loved as kids and see where that leads us." - Aimee Nezhukumatathil, World of Wonders.

From my backyard in Kenton, I grow seasonal flowers and create fresh, joyful bouquets for the Portland metro area. Every year I tuck more perennials and annuals into the ground while marveling at how many creatures benefit from the plants around us.

The first flower I planted when we moved into this house was a sunflower. I have saved seeds each year since that first one bloomed. That's where "Plant seeds. Sprout joy." comes from. It is a simple reminder that small acts of growth can bring light-not only in the garden but in life. Sunflowers will always be my favorite flower.

The garden helped me through years of infertility.

It helped me through the unknowns of a pandemic.

Watching seeds sprout and flowers bloom reminded me that life goes on, even in the hardest seasons.

Now I get to share the beauty of the garden with you.

Thank you for supporting locally grown flowers. Whether it's a seasonal subscription or a one-time bouquet, my hope is that these flowers brighten your home and lift your spirits.
